- CAPE COD 2021 -
Previous:
After the return of Cape Cod at the end of 2015, a new, more sporty lifestyle would begin. I bought bicycles, rode in the mountains, went hiking, etc. Adventures and knowledge with friends that I had thought about in the months of that trip. Then came some difficult years that prevented the immediate return, even so, it was achieved 6 years later. After the pandemic, well into 2021, I was personally practicing the study of past tense a lot and stimulating the concentration of the perception of reality.
This helps a lot to have a better performance in daily life. So much so that I took the opportunity to take a trip to Cape Cod in the summer. I realised that it was too late to do it in July, since I was planning to spend the 4th of July there, and I thought about it for September. I bought the ticket on July 12 to take place on September 1. During that time I made some ideas of what it would be like. In August, every week I wrote a month of 2015 and filed it in the records. Then the end of August would arrive and said trip.
- September 2015 -
Wednesday 1
I took the Spirit flights with stops in Fort Lauderdale Fl (First time traveling on stopovers) I thought it was tedious.
After landing in Boston, I was already at the bus stops, taking the Brockton & Plymout Bus towards Hyannis. When I crossed the Sagamore Bridge, everything in my life made sense.
Sagamore Bridge, entering Cape Cod.
Then I walked from the bus stop to the Mall, where I met Fino there and made him a surprise. My cousin Jochi went to look for me. Everything was perfect.
Thursday 2
As the weather had predicted, it would rain in the morning and I accompanied Jochi to a house repair he was working on. 1460 Santuit Newtown Rd. Later in the afternoon the weather improved and I took the new bike out for the first time.
Finally on Ames Way
When leaving I took the usual routes of 2015, passing through the long-awaited Ames Way. Then heading to the old Gas Station and Hyannis. I was amazed by the quality of the very clean air and the total organization of this Town.
Perfect Sunset on Cape Cod
Passing through Camp St i entered the old Gas Station where I worked in 2015. Old memories immediately surfaced. Then I continued towards Hyannis passing through the Harbor.
Hyannis Harbor
Having left only in the afternoon, I returned before the sun had set, even so the sunsets were still not as early as they had been in October 2015.
Sunset in Centerville, leaving Ames Way.
Near home. Everything is perfect.
Friday the 3rd
In the morning I went with Jochi to the little house on Santuit Newtown Rd. And we did some work, then we went to Lovells Pond to see what it looked like. The house has a secret exit to the lake.
Jochi at Lovells Pond
In the afternoon I headed out on my bike to Craigville Beach to enjoy the sunny day and the beautiful views that sparkled in the sun. Craigville is very close to Centerville, I arrived in about 15 minutes on the bike.
One of my favorite houses in Craigville
I had never had the opportunity to visit Long Beach Rd before. In 2015 I never ventured into that area. Only on Google Earth.
Town way to water
I passed by the beach and the local fast food joints. Being just a quick visit, I didn't have time to eat or swim on the beach, since at the end of the day I would go with the family to another beach to watch the sunset and watch the low tide. Apparently it was already the final days of summer on the beach, although there were quite a few people, it was already noticeable that the end of summer was approaching.
Then I went down Starboad Ln (One of my favorites) I hadn't been here for so long and finally seeing it I felt on cloud nine. This street is more downhill than uphill and has the shape of hills, you go up and down the small hills surrounded by fragrant pine trees. The houses and their gardens smell a lot because of the Lands Caping arrangements they make.

Upon arriving at the house I went with the family to Quivett Neck beach where the tide receded in an incredible way, leaving large amounts of sand free of water to walk widely.
The family in Quivett Neck
The tide receded about 24 feet deep, we were below the sea walking between the dunes of the beaches. I had never been to this place and I loved it, because it gives some incredibly beautiful photos. Then I left with Jochi as we had gone in two vehicles, I continued with him to see the sunset at Grays Beach View Point
The end of the Indian Trail – Sandy Neck Colony and the Lighthouse
During the trip to Grays Beach I asked Jochi to took me to Indian Trail in Barstable to see the house he had worked on in 2004, although that trip was planned for the next few days we passed, saw the house and reached the end where you could see Sandy Neck Colony and the Lighthouse.
Then we continued to Grays Beach View Point At Grays Beach View Point there is a bridge just like the one in Sandwich that had been there in 2015. Many people watching the sunset, taking photos and enjoying the view. Beautiful, this was Cape Cod in all its splendor. There we took lots of photos, both with the camera and with the cell phone. It was an unforgettable sunset.

Saturday 4
Taking advantage of the day that dawned with perfectly incredible weather, The sun shone on the plants wonderfully, the smells and the freshness were indescribable. We left very early in the morning heading to Yarmouth along Route 28, then I turned onto Camp St to take Buck Island Rd.
Buck Island Rd.
Then I took Circuit Rd and passed by my old boss Mike Aronne's old house, Say a drive through that old neighborhood to Swand Pond to see if the fall colors were approaching, but it was still very early. I continued along Winslow Gray Rd to the old neighborhood where I lived in the first part of 2004 and found the house I had not visited for 17 years. From there I played The Smiths songs that I heard in the first days of working with the boys when I went to the Cavalier Hotel where they lived. I repeated that same experience by turning my bicycle where I was doing. It was incredible.
The house where I lived in the first phase of 2004 – 9 Pinewood Rd.
Making comparisons from 2004 – 2021
Then I continued through South Yarmouth until I found Willow St and passed behind the Breentwood hotel where I lived the second stage of 2004. I continued along one of my favorites “Pleasant St” and found the Bridge on the Bass River. From here this area is called Dennis.
Houses on Bass River seen from the Bridge.
I went along the Cove Rd towards my secret place which is a parking lot where the street ends and is interrupted by the Grand Cove lake, the street can be seen continuing towards the front. In 2015 I put my grandmother's name on one of the woods of the local bridge, but on this trip I couldn't find it since they removed the bridge. During the following period before this trip, I had wanted to see what was on the other side, always searching on Google Earth Street View what that area of South Dennis was like
It wasn't until this day that I decided to go beyond the secret place and see it from the other place. I went on the bicycle and that was it, I had arrived where I had never gone before.
Grand Cove
Houses in the distance
House on Cove Rd and on the other side of Grand Cove.
This part of the street is totally different and very quiet, pleasing me a lot, the houses are closer, the smells of wood were indescribable. That unique smell that Cape Cod has.
For the first time I saw my secret place from the other shore.
After this area I left heading back up Highank Rd and crossing the Bass River in a part that I had never seen. I left through the Bass River Golf Couse which I had only been there in 2004. To avoid 28, I took Winslow Gray and then Buck Island Rd. A pit stop at Macdonals near the airport, where I always dined on many occasions in the summer of 2015.
Ames Way – At Home – Having a Beer
Upon arriving at the house, a trip had been prepared by the family to see the sunset at Craigville Beach and walk on the beach until reaching Long Beach. Everything was perfect, we walked along the sand listening to the ocean waves, feeling the breeze and watching the sunset.

House 283 is the oldest in Long Beach and has brilliant architecture, the Kennedys used it on several occasions. The house was built in the 1930s.

On Sunday there was not much activity because it had rained in the morning. And had then scheduled the trip to Barnstable Village for the next day. When the rain stopped I rode my bike through the streets of Centerville and exited towards Oak St to see where the best option was to go to Barnstable. I arrived near the Route 6 Bridge.
Oak St
On Oak St it happened that a friend from 2015 (Ramón) recognized me and greeted me

Monday the 6th
I left early on the bike towards Barstanle Village along the streets I had planned the day before: Buckskin Path, Patriot Way, Oak St until we reached Route 6A.
3166 Main St – Rail Road
The house 3166 is from 1860 in Victorian style, as most of the homes on Main Street are very old houses, as Barnstable has the oldest. I remember the train tracks when I was with Mike in 2004 heading to the Indian Trail house to work. Since we went so many times, I became quite fond of the place and each morning trip.
Barnstable Village
Barnstable takes its English name from Barnstaple in Devon England. It was established in 1638 as one of the first towns in the Plymouth Colony, a year after Sandwich. Then I went for a burger at The Buttercup Café, just as we had planned, although we took it to go and ate it on the Fire Department bench enjoying the weather of the day.

Details
I continue along 6A until we reach Indian Trail Street and see again the house 50 Indian Trail where we worked in 2004 with Mike Aronne repairing the roof, walls, etc. There we spent 15 days working on it. At that time it was the end of Cape Cod in 2004 and it was where I thought a lot about my past, childhood and things in life that helped me a lot in the following years.

After doing the route where I had never ridden a bike before, I headed towards the famous “Nirvana Cafe” in front of Barnstable Court. This cafeteria has a beautiful, very elegant interior. Finally after so long knowing of its existence I can visit it.

From here I began the return to the house and took another route that would connect me faster to Craigville Beach. Taking “Old Jail Rd” to get to Old Craigville Rd.
Beautiful house at 210 Buckwood Rd, Hyannis
The trip ended at Craigville Beach taking the first beach swim of this trip to Cape Cod at my favorite beach. The water was not cold. On the contrary, it was very good. Then I took the route to Centerville through the usual streets, Starboard Ln and continued through Lumbert Mill itself.
Watching the sunset.
That afternoon I went with the family to see the sunset on the beaches of Dennis
Tuesday, September 7
Cape Cod Rail Trail
Jochi took me in the van to Yarmouth and from there I left for Orleans on the bicycle, which would become the longest trip so far, it was about 80 km. The route was along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. I was surprised by the large number of trees and wooden fences (I made a video of the tour) arriving in Harwich seeing some very large lakes.
Turtle found – Lake in Harwich
After passing through Brewster I arrived in Orleans, here everything looked different and frozen in time, some things were older than in all of Cape Cod that I had seen.
And I finally arrived at the house where Caonabo and Hermes lived in the summer of 1998, the trip that started it all. All of his adventures were an inspiration for many years before I met Dalvin and my cousins who were in 2002 and 2003, etc. From here the route was to eat at the Papa Ginos pizza restaurant, where they themselves worked, the route was very close as far as I could see, because I arrived very quickly.

Eating Pizza at Papa Ginos
Apparently the place is intact and identical to the one where Caonabo worked that summer, as it preserves the furniture, walls, paintings, etc. It felt very good to be there, although there were only two customers, a woman with her child and me. The bicycle was tied to a tree outside in the parking lot. At that moment I thought that this restaurant would surely soon change its appearance to a more modern one or perhaps another name, since those in the other towns had even disappeared.

At that point I left the Rail Trail route and headed south towards the Herring River to see that protected area that I had seen years ago on Google Earth, and I was finally given the opportunity to visit it for the first time. I was very amazed at the tranquility of the area. I have always wanted to paint that area a lot, because it is unique.

Arriving at the house, the bicycle battery died, reaching more than 80 km away, although without batteries I arrived home safely around 5 in the afternoon to be with the family.

Jochi in the paddle board, Scorton Creek
During those days, my cousin Jochi had the Coronavirus and was free from work, but he still felt good to do activities. And that morning we went to Route 6A near Sanwich on Scorton Creek and took two paddle boards to go down the river to the sea. When I arrived I was surprised by how clear the water was when I reached the sea, looking like a Caribbean beach with crystal clear waters, it was incredible.
There are some houses on the shore, few people on the shore, some with dogs others reading some books. We lasted a while and returned along the river. The return journey was very difficult since the tide was receding and the river current was very strong, until we were able to make it and reach the car parking lot. We passed under the Bridge several times. I always saw this river on Google Earth satellite maps and I was already in this place for the first time.

Thursday 9 September
Completely rainy day. I accompanied Jochi to work on the house we had worked on at 1460 Santuit Newtown Rd. I helped with some things, although the house was in bad condition, I felt a good energy. According to the data, the house is from 1950 in Cape Cod style.

That night we watched American Football, Tom Brady was playing with Tampa Bay.
I took a trip on the bike heading to Centerville Village, Long Beach, Craigville Beach. I visited one of my favorite houses that is square in shape and the old house next door. I took some photos. Continued to Hyannisport on a beautiful morning. I saw the Kennedys' house. I returned to Craigville Beach and took a swim, as luckily the day was very hot. Then before heading home, I stopped by Osterville to see some houses, an old British red telephone. Then I returned home.

This day my sister-in-law and her family would arrive visiting from New York around noon, so I took advantage of the morning and walked around the Centerville neighbourhood, making it a beautiful morning. I walked by Lumbert Pond, Ames Way, seeing one of my favorite houses. From this bike trip I made one of the best discoveries and it was that Skunknet Rd had a secret passageway that is easy for the bike to pass. In the summer of 2015 I had been looking for alternatives to be able to go out to the north and discover other routes to go to work and the maps at that time showed me that the street was closed, so I never ventured out. Now in 2021 I had discovered this new route that would be the one I would use the most the following year in 2022.

When my sister-in-law, her husband and girls arrived, we went to eat pizza in downtown Hyannis on Main St. Then we took some walks, ending up at the hotel where they were going to stay. Then I took them for a walk on Craigville's Long Beach and then we went to another beach in Dennis where I had gone with Jochi to watch the low tide and sunset. That night we had dinner at a Peruvian restaurant in Hyannis.

Sunday 12 September
That morning I left with Tania and Family and took them to Bourne to the Cape Cod Canal, I told them a little about the history of the place and we walked a little with the children. We saw the train go by. Then I took them to Sandwich which wasn't that far away and we walked along the Boardwalk watching the tide go out. Then they had to leave very early because they would return to New York and the trip would be very long.

That same afternoon I went with Jochi to Boston to see Américo who was there and we went to see the Patriots. We had some beers and headed back to Cape Cod.

Last long bike trip, I went to West Yarmouth, the normal route, taking Ames Way and reaching Hyannis, the old pump and taking Buck Island Rd, which was already showing some fall colors in the leaves. I took many photos. That afternoon I went with Jochi's family to Mayflower to watch the sunset. Tuesday 14 September

Last day of adventure, I went to the trails of the Lumbert Pond Conservation Area to hike and enjoy the tranquility of the place, taking many photos. I walked some paths that I hadn't gotten past the power lines. The sunlight shone incredibly on the pine trees in a very horizontal way, signs that autumn was coming.
